Elizabeth V. Baney Wampler, age 96, of Erie and formerly Edinboro, died Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Saint Vincent Health Center. Born in Fayette County, PA on February 20, 1916, she was a daughter of the late Alex and Margaret Valasat Varney.

Wampler, Elizabeth V. BaneyFor many years, Elizabeth lived on Neyland Road in Edinboro. She was a homemaker, and after raising her children, she used her baking and cooking skills at various local Erie restaurants including Howard Johnson’s, the Ramada Inn, and the Kahkwa Club. She previously lived in Florida for a few years to care for her sisters, and she also lived in Erie and Centerville before moving in with her daughter in Greene Township.

Elizabeth enjoyed baking, cooking, canning and crocheting, and she was a natural musician, loving to sit at the piano to sing and play the old hymns. She was affiliated with the Laymen’s Home Missionary Movement.

Preceding her in death were her first husband, Lester Baney, and her second husband, George Wampler; a brother, Alex Varney, and three sisters, Helen Wampler, Margaret Ingram, and Irene Bozendorf.

Survivors in her family include two daughters, Darlene Dobruk and husband A. Nick of Erie, and Karen Fielding of Titusville; two sons, Lester J. Baney, and Robert D. Baney and wife Rhonda of Whitmore Lake, MI; a step-son, George A. Wampler and wife Sue of Holiday, FL; one brother, Thomas A. Varney and wife Helena of Centerville; and eight grandchildren, many great- and great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home, 306 Erie Street, Edinboro on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral will be held there Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. with the interment following at Erie County Memorial Gardens.
