Helen Sherred, age 91, life-long resident of Venango Township, Venango, PA passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at the home of her son, Larry Sherred, Tobin Road, Cambridge Springs. Born on May 30, 1921 in Ambridge, PA, Helen was a daughter of the late Mary Sydleck and Joseph Styborski. On February 22, 1941, Helen married Raymond H. Sherred and he preceded her in death on March 15, 2001.
Helen graduated from Cambridge Springs High School in 1939 and worked at Talon, Inc. in Meadville for 35 years, retiring as an inspector. She and her late husband owned a dairy farm and she assisted him in its operation. She was a past noble grand in the Rebecca Lodge which she belonged and was also a member of the Venango Grange and Hayfield Grange. Helen was active in the Cambridge Springs First Church of God. She enjoyed attending the Cambridge Springs Senior Center, gardening, and music, playing the piano and guitar.
Surviving Helen are two children, a daughter – Loretta Woolstrum and her husband, Duane of Cambridge Springs and a son – Larry Sherred and his wife, Lynn of Cambridge Springs. She also is survived by 12 grandchildren and 9 great grand children all of whom she dearly loved. In addition, Helen is survived by two sisters – Laura Puchacz of Cambridge Springs and Veronica Moscorelli of Ashtabula, OH; a former daughter-in-law – Gail Sherred of Greensboro, NC and a daughter-in-law – Joy Sherred of Erie. Helen was preceded in death in addition to her parents and husband by a son – John Sherred who died in 2004 and by four brothers – Frank, Ed, John, and Joseph Styborski and by two sisters – Jane Mott and Liz Basile.
Friends may call at the Van Matre family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 and are invited to attend funeral services there on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Reverend James Callender, pastor of the Cambridge Springs First Church of God, will officiate and be assisted by Reverend Brubaker, pastor of Faith Bible Church of Union City. Interment will be in Venango Cemetery.
