Ron Lynn Wellman, age 86, of 594 North Street, Meadville, PA passed away on Friday, October 12, 2012 at Wesbury United Methodist Community, Meadville, PA where he had resided for the past 3 and 1/2 years. Born on July 25, 1926 in Union City, Ron was a son of the late Lynn Albert Wellman and Janet Mary Thompson Wellman. He married the former Mary Isabelle Shields on March 31, 1977 and she survives.

Wellman, Ron LynnRon received his high school education in Titusville and was drafted into the US Army in January of 1945. He was honorably discharged in November of 1946. Returning home from the Second World War, Ron was employed at several different jobs before becoming a maintenance employee at Edinboro College. He worked there from 1972 until his retirement in 1991.

A member of the Erie Masonic Lodge and the Erie Shrine, Ron also was an active member of the NRA. He enjoyed the out-of-doors and fishing and hunting. He also was an avid reader, partcularly enjoying magazines and articles about his two hobbies.

In addition to his wife – Mary, of 35 years, are two step daughters – Susan Kahlbaugh and her husband, William of Albion and Janet McLallen of Townville; a step son – David McLallen and his wife, Lisa of Erie; two grandchildren – Christy McLallen of Townville and Patrick McLallen of Erie; and two great grandchildren – Leiah McCarl and Liam McCarl. She is also survived by two brothers – Charles Wellman of Edinboro and Larry Wellman and his wife, Sandy of Meadville; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Monday from 1:00 to 3:00. Funeral services will begin at 3:00 with Reverend Jerry Walton, pastor of Meadville First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be in Mitchell Cemetery, Cambridge Township.
