Joan Ruth Ryland (Albert), age 81, resident of Waterford, died at her home on Tuesday, November 27, 2012. Born in Union City on February 24, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Lulu Beemer Pattison.
Joan was a beautician for over 50 years and operated her own shop in Union City. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, Union City Lodge, and the American Legion Post 285, Waterford.
Joan had many dear friends and was often referred to as “Mom” by many. She enjoyed golfing, playing cards with friends, and working puzzles. She cherished spending quality time with her grandsons and family who will always remember her as a loving mother and grandmother.
Preceding her in death was her husband, Jack Dean Ryland, who died August 1, 1993; her son, Jeffrey Lynn Ryland; and a brother, Carlton Pattison.
Family members that survive include her three daughters, Jaylene Keefer and husband Mark of Sarasota, FL, Jorja McWilliams of Waterford, and Jody Ryland of Indianapolis, IN; two grandsons, Branden and Kenny McWilliams; and a brother, Howard Pattison and wife Doris of Titusville.
Friends may attend visiting hours at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford on Friday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Final burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Union City.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Union City Country Club or VNA Hospice.
Joan will be missed by many. I first met her as a young boy, later was united into her family through marriage to Jaylene. Joan was the rock of the Ryland family of Love & Caring. Knowing first hand, she has left a road ahead to be built by her loved ones.

I was very sad to read about the passing of your dear loved one. Although this is a very painful time for you and your family, I hope the loving promise found at John 5:28 and 29 bring you a measure of peace and comfort that God does promise a resurrection of those whom we have lost. Continue to hold on tight to those precious memories of your loved one until this wonderful promise is fulfilled.

We are saddened by your Mom’s passing but fully understand that cancer is an evil disease and would never leave her be. We are sorry we never met her. However, having met Jody and knowing Jaylene we are well aware of what kind of a woman she must have been. Enjoy the warmth of your family and friends.
My sympathy to her beloved daughters and grandsons. We all will miss her. Happy memories. Nancy Swanson.
