Raymond G. “Waxy” Green, age 80 and lifelong resident of Waterford, died Thursday, February 7, 2013 at Edinboro Manor where he resided since 2004. Born December 9, 1932 in Greene Township, he was a son of the late Perry and Ethel Penncille Green.
Ray was a heavy equipment mechanic and worked for Russell Standard in Union City for over 30 years, retiring in 1999. He served in the US Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 285 in Waterford, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Moose Lodge, both in Union City. He loved Chevy trucks.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Majba of Union City; a son, Roland Green of Erie; 9 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; his brother, Thomas Green of Waterford; two sisters, Florence Sturgis of Erie and Mary Fries and her husband, Ted, also of Waterford; and several nieces and nephews including Ashley and Allison Fries. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mae Chrapowitzky.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford, on Sunday evening from 7 – 9pm. Funeral services will be there Monday at 12:00 noon with Rev. Greg Jack of the Waterford Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be in LeBoeuf Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the family.
