Donald Delbert Peeples, age 86, of Summit Township, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at UPMC Hamot after a long illness. Born on May 2, 1927 in Endeavor, PA, he was one of five children of the late Lloyd M. and Laura Monday Peeples. For the past several years, he resided at Niagara Village and Edinboro Manor.

Peeples, Donald DelbertDonald served in the United States Army for a total of 21 years and 9 months. He served from 1945-46 during World War II, from 1949-52, and between 1953 and 1971 he served during the Korean Conflict, the Vietnam War, and the Lebanon Crisis. After retiring in 1971, he worked as a civilian with military contractors for the next 5 years, finally returning to Summit Township to live on the family farm. He was a member of Summit United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Carl A. Peeples, and his sister, Vivian I. Hargenrader. He is survived by two sisters, Ellen L. Osborn and her husband Harold of Waterford, and Freida J. Wrona of Mill Village; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford on Saturday starting at 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Lee Pomeroy of Summit United Methodist Church. Burial with U.S. Army Military Honors assisted by the Erie Crawford County Burial Detail will be in Erie County Memorial Gardens.
