Walter H. Miller, age 56, resident of Waterford, died Sunday, July 7, 2013 at UPMC Hamot after a long illness. Born in Ashland, OH on July 16, 1956, he was a son of the late Harold and Annalise Kjar Miller.
Walt grew up in the Conneautville, PA area and graduated in 1974 from Conneaut Valley High School where he received the FFA award degree “Keystone Farmer”, and the Dekalb Agriculture Accomplishment Award. For many years he operated the family dairy farm until moving to the Cranesville/Albion area where he was employed as operations manager for Mattocks 5 Inc. and also served as mayor of Cranesville. More recently, he was a milk hauler for Mitchell Trucking in Saegertown.
In 1998, Walt married Natalie Drake and settled in Waterford. He was ordained in 2004 as an elder in the Melchizedek Priesthood of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He also served as chaplain with the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jacob Miller. He is survived by his wife, Natalie Drake Miller; a brother, Chris Miller and his wife Kathy of East Springfield; two sisters, Ann Marie Logan of Durham, NC and Elizabeth Milby and her husband Mark of Eldersburg, MD; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford on Wednesday from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be there Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Bishop Wilkerson of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Interment will be in Beaver Center Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
