Martha Louise (Lindsley) Proper, age 77, loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at her home in LeBoeuf Township, Union City on Saturday, August 24, 2013. She was born on November 8, 1935 in Union City to the late Herbert J. and Francis H. (Blakeslee) Lindsley. Her husband, Bert Junior Proper, whom she married December 29, 1955, preceded her in death.
Martha was a homemaker, a laborer at MFG, and also worked as a potato harvester for Port Farms, Wise’s Farm, and Troyer’s Farm. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, working jigsaw puzzles, playing cards, fishing, hunting, drives in the country, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her husband Bert, she was preceded in death by an infant son Brian Edward Proper, a brother Victor Lindsley, and a sister Ida (Lindsley) Burton.
Martha is survived by two daughters– Donna Bayhurst (David Graham) of Wattsburg, and Brenda (David) Bascus of Verden, OK; three sons– Stephen (Karen) Proper, Ernest (Karla) Proper, and Leonard (Amy) Proper, all of Waterford; six sisters– Peg (John Jr.) Barton, Helen (Bill Sr.) Coe, Mary (David) Kimmy, Marge Hawley, all of Union City, and June (Frank) Wojtecki of Corry, and Barbara (Fred) Trantham of Georgia; and one brother– Paul (Sherri) Lindsley of Erie. She is further survived by 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. and may attend funeral services there Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Union City.
