Carolyn Ann Godfrey, age 62, died at her home in the Cambridge Springs area where she had lived for the past 40 years on Sunday, September 1, 2013. She had been in declining health for a number of years. Born in Meadville, PA on Feb. 26, 1951, she is the daughter of the former Harriet R. Cole and the late Wayne J. Brown and was the first born of seven children. Carolyn married the love of her life, Robert Godfrey in 1969, and together they proved the pessimists wrong who said the marriage would not last. Together, Carol and Bob produced two children – Elizabeth M. Godfrey who resides in Pittsburgh and Philip D. Godfrey who resides in Columbus, OH. Angelina M. Godfrey is her only grandchild and lives in Columbus, also.

Godfrey,In her younger years, Carolyn was a volunteer teacher’s aide for Cambridge Springs kindergarten. She loved young people and prepared countless snacks for Little League and Little Griders. She worked for several years at Short’s Red and White in Cambridge Springs and for about a year at Slender You in Edinboro. Carolyn was happiest when she was cooking or baking, but health issues which began in her mid 40’s limited her in these pleasures.

Carolyn is survived, in addition to her husband, by her mother – Rose Brown of Saegertown and six siblings. They are Linda Check and her husband, Don of Cochranton; Kathy Brown of Saegertown; Lila Fishbach of Tennessee; Dwayne Brown of Alabama; Ronald Brown and his wife, Betsy of Saegertown and Robert Brown and his wife, Jenny of Saegertown. Many nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to her family, Carolyn is survived by many close friends, three in particular, with whom she maintained friendship since elementary school. They are – Nora Luzier of Saegertown, Diane Courson of Meadville, and Mary Jane Coy of Titusville. The Fitch family – Greg and Darianne and their two children – Jessica and Brannyn were considered by Carolyn to be her de-facto grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9. There is no funeral service being scheduled and burial will be done privately in Venango Cemetery.
