Dr. Daniel A. DeFigio, age 74, longtime Edinboro resident, died at his home on Thursday, November 28, 2013 after an extended illness. Born in Republic, PA on June 4, 1939, he was a son of the late Daniel and Ida Direnzi DeFigio.

DeFigio, Dr. Daniel A.Dr. DeFigio was a professor of Biology at Edinboro University of PA for 23 years, from 1970 until his retirement in 1993. He completed his undergraduate studies at California University of PA, his Masters at West Virginia University, and his Doctorate at Illinois State in Bloomington, IL. In addition to teaching, which was his passion, he was a man of varied interests including fishing, playing the piano, traveling, and supporting his favorite team, the Pittsburgh Pirates. Most of all, he loved his family and friends, and was proud to be a friend of Bill W.

Dan is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betty) Nuzzulo DeFigio; two sons, Daniel DeFigio of Nashville, TN and Anthony DeFigio of New York City, NY; a step-son, Mark Carnes of Atlanta, GA and his children Alexis and Cody Carnes; a brother, Nicholas DeFigio and wife Mary Ann of Monroeville, PA; two nephews, Nicholas (wife Toni) DeFigio and James DeFigio; brother-in-law John (wife Joan) Nuzzulo and their children of Atlanta, GA; sister-in-law Christina (husband Daniel) Cullen and their children of Meadville; and several cousins.

Those that have preceded him in death include his beloved uncle, Michael DeFigio, and several cousins, aunts and uncles.

A memorial service will take place at a later date and will be held in Republic, PA. Memorials in Dan’s name may be made to Hospice of Crawford County, 464 Pine Avenue, Meadville, PA 16335.
