Fordyce J. Holes passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 11, 2014 surrounded by his loving family at Cambridge Springs Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. He was born in Lajose, PA on March 30, 1930, a son of the late Fordyce and Ruby Rainey Holes.
Ford was a member of the former Calvary Evangelical Covenant Church. He was a sheet metal worker for 35 years and a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #12. He enjoyed camping, reading, sports, and his family. Ford was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be dearly missed by his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth J. Lindenberger Holes, whom he married March 10, 1951 and who died June 1, 2011; four brothers, Ivan, Howard, Jackie, and Tommy; three sisters, Elizabeth, Genevieve, and Judy; a son-in-law William Berchtold; and a grandson Brodie Fordyce Holes.
Survivors include a brother Ronald Holes of Meadville; three daughters and two sons: Arlene Berchtold of Erie, Barbara Henry and her husband Randy of Erie, Crystal Taylor and her husband Alan of Waterford, Barry Holes and his wife Chris of Naples, FL, and Jeffrey Holes and his wife Emily of New Castle, PA. Also surviving are 18 grandchildren: Andrew Berchtold, Stephanie Nuhfer, Tracy Tokarczyk, and Kelley Jacquel, all of Erie; Jason, Ryan, Rachael, and Zack Henry of Erie; Brianne Skelton of Waterford, and Justin Taylor of Charlotte NC; Clint, Jared, Tyler, and Katie Holes of Naples FL; Tori Holes of Columbus OH, and Courtney Holes of Waterford, Jacob Holes stationed at Ft. Bliss, TX, and Caleb Holes stationed at Ft. Drumm, NY both serving in the U.S. Army; and twelve great-grandchildren: twins Sean and Karlee Berchtold and Brandon Burnett, William and Hannah Nuhfer; Ethan Tokarczyk, Elexis, Kaiden, and Gavyn Henry; Kiernan and Kamden Skelton; and Peyton Taylor.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford, on Friday evening from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm. Funeral Services will be held there on Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Emily J. Zeig-Lindsey officiating. Burial will follow at Erie County Memorial Gardens.
