John Kenneth Root, age 73, resident of 24549 State Highway #99, Cambridge Springs, Pa, died Saturday, March 22, 2014 at Edinboro Manor, Edinboro, PA. Born on January 4, 1941 in Cambridge Springs, John was a son of the late Loren Stacy Root and Agnes Wojechowski Root.
Following his graduation from Cambridge Springs High School in 1959, John worked at Foam Plastics in Cambridge Springs for six years until 1966 and then began working for Lord Manufacturing in Cambridge Springs. He remained with Lord Manufacturing for 34 1/2 years retiring in 2001 as Production Supervisor. In addition, John was with the US Army Reserves from 1962 until 1968.
John enjoyed many great times with his many friends at his hunting camp located in Clymer, NY, hunting, fishing, and playing cards. He had a particular passion for playing golf and was a member of the Riverside Golf Course where he was club champion for two years. During one special golf outing at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio, John eagled the famed “monster”.
Preceding John in death in addition to his parents, Stacy and Agnes Root, were his two brothers – Jerry Root and Bill Root and his sister – Genevieve Stevenson. Surviving John is a sister-in-law – Shirley M. Root of Cambridge Springs; a brother-in-law – James Stevenson of Alden, NY; a niece – Karen Tussing and her husband, Gordon of Alden NY; five nephews – Kenneth Stevenson and his wife, Susan; Ronald Stevenson; and James Stevenson and his wife, Lynn all of Alden, NY; Steven Reagles and his wife, Edwina and Jim Reagles and his wife, Joann all of Cambridge Springs; and many great nephews and nieces
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Tuesday, March 25th from 2-4 and 7-9 and are invited to attend funeral services there on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Duane Pinney, pastor of Washington Valley Christian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Venango Cemetery.

John and his family was very good friends to my family; especially my dad where he played cards every Saturday and Sunday with John and his parents. Please know that he will be missed by many.
