Barry R. Swift, age 42, resident of 26484 Sherwood Drive, Mitchell’s Lake, Cambridge Springs, PA died Sunday, March 2, 2014 following a brief illness at Meadville Medical Center, Meadville, PA. Born on August 27, 1971 in Meadville, PA, Barry was a son of Linda Thompson Newell and Donald L. Swift.
Barry began working part time while still in high school for A A Robbins in Cambridge Springs. After graduating from Crawford County Vo-Tech and Cambridge Springs High School with the Class of 1989, he began a 22 year career with A A Robbins as yard manager. Barry enjoyed NASCAR, dirt track racing, the Buffalo Bills, riding his 4-wheeler, and camping.
Surviving Barry in addition to his parents – Linda and her husband Stephen Newell of Meadville and Donald Swift of Cambridge Springs; is his wife – Denise D. Sherwood Swift whom he married on September 14, 1996 of Cambridge Springs; a daughter – Luceil Arlene Sherwood Swift of Cambridge Springs; three brothers – Mark Swift and his wife, Melissa of Cambridge Springs, Jeff Newell of Meadville, and Brian Newell and his wife, Selina of Tracy, CA; his paternal grandmother – Esther Swift of Edinboro; an uncle – Robert Thompson and his wife, Phyllis of Erie and an aunt – Christine Green and her husband, Samuel of Venango; his aunt – Beth Singleton and her husband, Mark of Edinboro. Also many cousins, nieces, and nephews survive. Preceding Barry in death were his maternal grandparents – Robert and Arlene Thompson; his paternal grandfather – Harold Swift; and a special uncle and aunt – Dick and Donna Hadberry.
Memorial visitation will be held at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home on Saturday from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held there on Saturday at 3:00 with Reverend Rob Willert, pastor of Union City Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Memorial gifts may be given to a trust established for his daughter – Lucy Swift in care of Steve and Linda Newell.
My heart goes out to Barry’s family, he was a wonderful friend and I am so glad to have known him.
