Mary Jane Thomas (Winkelbauer-Pelc), age 53, of Erie, passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014 after a short illness. Born in Erie on August 30, 1960, she was a daughter of the late J. David Winkelbauer and Lois Ann Miller Winkelbauer.
Mary was a Registered Nurse and had worked over the years at Saint Vincent Health Center, Akron General, and UPMC Hamot. She also later was employed at LECOM. Mary enjoyed her collections of carousel horses and Co-Boy figurines, but most of all, she loved her family. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister who will be missed by her family who loved her very much. She adored her two granddaughters and cherished time spent with them.
In addition to her parents, she also had a sister, Judith Brogdon, who preceded her in death.
Surviving family include her husband, Michael E. Thomas; her son, William S. Pelc Jr. and his wife Sarah of Springboro; three brothers and one sister– James Winkelbauer and wife Susan of Waterford, Norbert Winkelbauer and wife Kim of Edinboro, Frank Winkelbauer and wife Lorene of Erie, and Becky Matczak and husband Marc of Waterford. Mary also has many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends are invited to call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-8 p.m. A funeral service will begin at 8:00 p.m. and will be officiated by Pastor Art Barnes of the First Baptist Church of Linesville.
