Lavern “Jake” Walmer, age 53, resident of 22403 State Highway 6&19, Cambridge Springs, PA, passed away at his home on Monday, March 10, 2014 from the results of a brain tumor diagnosed in 2009. Born on April 4, 1960, in Erie, PA, Jake was a son of Loretta Brace Walmer and the late Charles Walmer. He married the former Penny Stafford on October 12, 1985 and she remains to mourn his loss.

Walmer, Lavern Jake graduated from General McLane High School and Erie County Vo-Tech in 1978. He started working at Walmer Trucking in his early teens and began driving dump trucks at the age of 16. He went on to work for Frank Tucci Trucking and for Rohrer Trucking as well as other companies before owning Lavern Walmer Trucking for the past 17 years.

Jake enjoyed watching his daughter’s softball games, playing golf with his friends and bowling. As a bowler, Jake threw a perfect 300 game and a high series of 771.

Jake is survived, in addition to his wife – Penny Stafford Walmer of Cambridge Springs and his mother – Loretta Brace Walmer of Cambridge Springs; by two daughters – Niki (Brett) Stoll of Kalamazoo, MI and Jamie Walmer living at home; a son – Matt Walmer of Akron, OH; a brother – Rick Walmer of Cambridge Springs; two sisters – Shirley Wozniak (Felix) of Edinboro and Tracy Walmer (Joe Van Hoyweghen) of Waterford; and his father-in-law – Neal Stafford of Cambridge Springs. Jake was preceded in death by his father – Charles Walmer and his mother-in-law: Darlene Stafford.

Friends mat call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 and are invited to attend funeral services there on Friday at 11:00 am. Reverend James Calender, pastor of the First Church of God in Cambridge Springs, will officiate. Interment will be in Venango Cemetery.
