Charles “Chuck” Robert Skelton, age 90, life-long resident of Edinboro, PA passed away on May 9, 2014 at Edinboro Manor after a brief illness. Born in Venango Township, Crawford County on December 13, 1923, Charles was a son of the late Robert H. Skelton and Helen D. Luellen Skelton.
He was a 1942 graduate of Edinboro High School where he excelled in football and baseball, two sports he enjoyed following throughout his life. A long time dairyman, Charles operated the Broadview Dairy Farm for over 25 years. From his teenage years, he had a passion for hunting and enjoyed several expeditions into the American West. Chuck also was an avid fisherman with many memorable experiences in the Florida Keys and Alaska.
Charles was a skilled craftsman and carpenter. In 1984, he completed the construction of his beloved “home in the woods” where he resided until the last week of his life.
Surviving Charles is a daughter – Joan Stuhr and her husband, Paul of Cedar Grove, WI and nieces and nephews including Jean Whitman and her husband, Leon of Tulsa, OK; Dorothy Erdely of Houston, TX; Margaret Orr and her husband, Scott of Cambridge Springs; Paula Mosier of Cambridge Springs; Robert Skelton and his wife, Diane of Crossingville; Paul Skelton and his wife, Tina of Saegertown; and Chuck Skelton and his wife, Kelly of Cranesville. In addition, there are numerous great nieces and nephews who survive.
Preceding Charles in death, in addition to his parents, was his wife, Virginia H. Randall Skelton, whom he married on December 24, 1942 and who died in 2005. His brother Paul E. Skelton died in 2004.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 306 Erie street, Edinboro, on Monday, May 12th, from 10:00 to 12:00 noon followed by a graveside committal service at Venango Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Venango Cemetery.
