Neil Eugene Glenn, age 78, lifelong resident of Cambridge Springs, PA, passed away at his residence 303 Thomas Street on Tuesday, August 12, 2014. He had been in failing health for several months. Born in Cambridge Springs, PA on April 2, 1936, Neil was a son of the late Henry Cowell Glenn and Martha Skowron Glenn. He married the former Carolynlee Hunter on May 11, 1968 and she survives.

Glenn, Neil EugeneBeing an industrious person, Neil’s first job was a soda jerk as a school boy at a downtown Cambridge Springs pharmacy. He graduated from Cambridge Springs High School in the Class of 1954 and was employed by the Modern Radio & Electric Store in Cambridge Springs for 15 years. Subsequently, Neil worked for the Carnation Milk Company in Cambridge Springs for a short time and then began employment with Lord Corporation in Cambridge Springs in the shipping department retiring in 2001 after 27 years.

Neil was committed to the Cambridge Springs Volunteer Fire Department and dedicated much of his time to their cause beginning at the age of 10 doing odd jobs. When he became 21, Neil joined the Department and has been a volunteer with them for 57 years. Neil also was a social member of the American Legion Post #381 in Cambridge Springs.

Neil had a passion for collecting antique toys and owned many hundreds of them. He collected them from anywhere they could be found and he became quite skilled in making necessary repairs to restore them. He was known as a handy man around Cambridge Springs making small repairs for mostly the elderly from whom he seldom charged. He also ran a small business taking unused or not needed articles to be recycled. He was a man who could be counted on and made himself available to anyone in need.

Surviving Neil in addition to his wife, Carolynlee, are two sons – Christian Glenn and his wife, Jessica and Alan Glenn; and a daughter Marsha Racop and her husband, Tim all of Cambridge Springs. There are also four grandchildren who survive -Hadley Glenn, Lydia Glenn, Seth Glenn, and Henry Racop all of Cambridge Springs. In addition there are two nieces surviving – Linda Stafford and Janet Humes, and a nephew – Pat Glenn.

Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 and are invited to funeral services there on Friday morning at 10:00. Reverend Daren Barnett, associate pastor of the Cambridge Springs First Baptist Church will officiate. Interment will be in Venango Cemetery.
