William G. Gorton, Jr., age 74, resident of 13886 W. Center Road, Springboro, PA died on Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Meadville Medical Center, Meadville, PA. He had lived in Cussewago Township, Crawford County, since 1977. Born on March 16, 1940 in Dunkirk, NY, William was a son of the late William G. Gorton, Sr. and Lena Brown Gorton. He married the former Marie L. Parson on July 9, 1958 and she survives.

Gorton, William G. Jr.Following his school education, William enlisted with the US Marine Corp and served with them from 1958 until 1962. Following his service he held several jobs, but primarily he worked as a welder, first with Bucyrus of Erie for 17 years and then for Tru-Weld Grating in Saegertown for a number of years. William last worked for Sanners Garage in Crossingville as a welder and mechanic. He belonged to the North East VFW, enjoyed fishing and visiting the Casinos, and riding his motorcycle. He particularly enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in their high school sports events.

Jr.Surviving William in addition to his wife, Marie, are two daughters – Linda Gorton of Jamestown, NY and Billie Jo Fry and her husband, Ron of Huntsville, TX; and two sons – Dan Schenk and his wife, Carrie of Cambridge Springs and William G. Gorton III and his wife, Kimberly of Cambridge Springs. Grandchildren surviving William are Corbin Schenk, Julie Schenk, Austin Miller, Kaleb Miller, Joshua Gorton, Preston Gorton, Alyssa Gorton, and Livia Gorton. Additional survivors include three sisters – Caroline Gorton of Ashville, NY; Mary LaPorte of Buffalo, NY and Helen Corell and her husband, Howard of Ripley, NY; and a brother – Charles Gorton and his wife, Judy of Port Richey, FL. Preceding William in death in addition to his parents were two brothers – Roger Gorton and Raymond Gorton and one sister- Sophia Sheldon.

Friends will be received at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00. There are no funeral services being planned.
