Alberta Mae McCartney, age 93, formerly a long time resident of Cambridge Springs, PA, passed away on Friday, November 7, 2014 at Rolling Hills Nursing Home, Conneautville, PA after an illness of several days. Born on December 29, 1920 in Cambridge Springs, PA, Alberta was a daughter of the late Charles Beerbower and Bernice Walters Beerbower. On November 2, 1940, Alberta married Albert Leroy McCartney and he preceded her in death on March 8, 1974.
Alberta was employed at Edinboro University in their Housekeeping Department for many years, retiring in 1980. She was presently active with the Cambridge Springs Historical Society and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was formerly an active member of Cambridge Grange. She attended Cambridge Springs First Baptist Church and Sunday School. Alberta enjoyed sewing, knitting, and crafts and found pleasure in attending garage sales. She had many friends who will miss her very much.
Preceding Alberta in death in addition to her parents and husband were two sisters – Margaret Proudfoot and Carol Beerbower; four brothers – Lloyd Beerbower, Paul Beerbower, Bob Beerbower, and Dick Beerbower. Alberta is survived by two sons – Larry C. McCartney and his wife, Donna of Mill Village and Gary L. McCartney and his wife, Carolyn of Edinboro; a step-daughter – Mary Margaret Yate; two brothers – Ralph Beerbower and his wife, Geri of Port Huron, MI and Harold Beerbower and his wife, Jean of Meadville; two sisters – Betty Beerbower and Violet Knapp, both of Saegertown. Also surviving are three grandchildren – Pamala Babcock and her husband, Kevin, Zachary McCartney and his wife, Leah, and Shannon Clark; and six great grandchildren – Troy Martin, Ryan Martin, Skylar Martin, Analise Rose Clark, Kylene Clark, and Evelyn McCartney.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Monday, November 10th from 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral services will be held there on Tuesday at 11 o’clock a.m. with a calling hour beginning at 10:00. Reverend Rod Beardsley, pastor of First Baptist Church in Cambridge Springs, will officiate. Interment will follow in Cambridge Cemetery.
