Marjorie Lenore (Wick) Kreider, age 89, of Waterford, passed away at St. Mary’s Home of Erie on Monday, December 22, 2014 after a long illness. She was born in Erie on April 16, 1925, the daughter of the late Albert and Agnes Wick. She was a graduate of Villa Maria High School, and in 1946 married Eugene Kreider who preceded her in death in 1994.

Kreider, Marjorie Lenore (Wick)Together, Marge and Eugene operated a 160 acre farm just north of Waterford, raising Shorthorn and Limousin beef cattle and horses. Marge loved horses all of her life. Growing up in the Glenwood Hills section of Erie, she got her first horse “Roxie” when she was 18 and rode her everywhere in the neighborhood. Marge loved the farm life and was very active in caring for the animals. She often said that she would much rather be at the barn caring for the animals than doing housework. Her favorite job was “making hay”, driving the tractor that operated the baler, while Eugene stacked the hay on the wagon.

Marjorie was an avid gardener, raising fruits and vegetables that she canned and froze to feed the family. Flowers were also a passion, and she took pride in tending the gardens surrounding the house and barns. Spring was her favorite season because it brought new life after the long winter, with the birth of the calves and the flower gardens coming alive with color. She loved her Doberman dogs over the years and always considered them part of the family. She was a wonderful loving mother to her three children, instilling in them the values that she had grown up with and offering encouragement in everything they did.

Marjorie is survived by her three children, Janice McLaughlin (Robert) of McKean, Richard Kreider of Edinboro, and Cynthia Kreider of Waterford; also, two grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Services will be held at the Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford on Saturday, December 27, starting with visiting hours at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral service following at 12:00 noon. Officiating will be Rev. Fr. Gregory Passauer of All Saints Parish in Waterford. Interment will be in Waterford Cemetery.
