Arthur Raymond Steadman, age 87, passed away at his home on 16780 Center Road, Cambridge Springs, PA, on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 after a short illness. He had lived in Cussewago Township for the past 55 years. Born in Titusville, PA on May 13, 1927, Arthur was a son of the late Raymond Arthur Steadman and Doris Vanderhoff Steadman. He married the former Joanne Elaine Beier on January 19, 1952 and she survives.

Steadman, Arthur RaymondFollowing his schooling, Arthur enlisted in the US Navy and honorably served his country in the Pacific from 1943 until 1946. After his discharge, Arthur worked for several machine shops in the Meadville area before beginning employment with Erie Forge and Steel in 1956. He retired from there as a crane operator after 30 years in 1986. Arthur also was a dairy farmer in Cussewago Township until 1970 when he changed to beef farming continuing until 1994. A hard working man, he also logged during the 1960’s and early 1970’s.

Arthur enjoyed watching his grandchildren participate in high school sports, playing bingo, and caring for his pet dogs – Chloe and Moose. He was a life member of Venango VFW Post #169 and a member of the Edinboro American Legion Post.

Surviving Arthur in addition to his wife – Joanne are three daughters – Marilyn Garis and her husband, Ronald of Gettysburg, PA; Carolyn Hall and her husband, Russell of Cambridge Springs; and Linda Alward and her husband, Ronald, of Cambridge Springs; and two sons – Kenneth Steadman of Cambridge Springs and Frederick Steadman and his wife, Sue, of Cambridge Springs. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren; one brother – Charles E. Steadman; two sisters – Ella Jean Beckdol; and Judith E. Gribus and her husband, George; and many nieces and nephews.

Arthur was preceded in death in addition to his parents – Raymond Steadman and Doris Steadman Krecken, by an infant brother – Dickie and an infant sister – Wanda; and a brother – Alfred Steadman.

Calling hours will be observed on Sunday, January 4th, from 1:00 until 4:00 at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 at the funeral home with Reverend Rod Beardsley, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Cambridge Springs, officiating. Military honors will be rendered at the conclusion. Burial will take place at Venango Cemetery.
