Howard Russell Brown, age 79, resident of 24964 Pinewoods Road, Cambridge Springs, PA, passed away on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Saint Vincent Health Center, Erie, PA. He had been in failing health. Born on October 31, 1935 in Union City, PA, Howard was a son of the late Orvis Edgar Brown and Marguerite Fields Brown. On June 14, 1958 Howard married the former Hazel J. Lasher and she survives.
Howard served with the Pennsylvania National Guard for nine years after his schooling. He then began a career as a printer working for 34 years for several local companies. Following, Howard worked as a press operator for Greenleaf, Inc., in Saegertown for four years. In 2011, he retired from Contemporary Motors where he worked as a driver. Howard enjoyed cutting wood and hunting. He was a member of American Legion post # 381.
Surviving Howard in addition to his wife, Hazel, is a daughter – Therese L. Mitchell and her husband, Dale of Union City and a son – Gregory R. Brown and his companion, Chris Varner of Florida; two granddaughters – Jessica Mitchell and Brooke Mitchell; three grandsons – James Brown, Russell Brown, and Grayson Varner. Also surviving are three brothers – Edward L. Brown of Waterford, Joseph D. Brown and his wife, Debbie of Waterford, and James A. Brown of Florida; and two sisters – Sandra L. Posavec of Waterford and Ida M. Manning of Florida. Howard was preceded in death in addition to his parents by a son – Douglas E. Brown who died on August 18, 2013 and by four brothers – William E. Brown, Virgil C. Brown, Clarence E. Brown, and Orvis E. Brown, Jr. and by one sister – Dora M. Young.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Friday from 2 – 4 and 6-8 p.m. and are invited to attend funeral services there on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Reverend Duane Pinney, pastor of the Washington Valley Christian Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Miller Station Cemetery.
