Mary Elizabeth Shaffer, age 88, longtime resident of Cambridge Springs, PA went to be with her Lord at Rolling Fields personal care home, Conneautville, PA where she had lived since August, 2014. Known to many as, Betty, she was born in New Castle, PA on April 30, 1926 a daughter of the late Edgar Forest Campbell and Florence Amelia Zook Campbell. She married Jerred Lawrence Shaffer on June 24, 1944 and he preceded her in death on March 9, 1993.
Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cambridge Springs where she was active in the Berean Sunday School Class and the Wednesday morning Women’s Bible Study. In addition, she was very involved with the Garden Room, served on the Funeral Dinner Committee, and enjoyed the Church’s game night. Also, Betty was a coordinator for Love, Inc. of Crawford County for over 15 years which gave her opportunity to help many others in need. An example to younger women, Betty acted as a mentor to them demonstrating how to become better wives and moms. A person who always had a smile, Betty adjusted easily to any new circumstance, never complaining, and quick to give the Lord her thanks.
Surviving Betty are four daughters – Janette Florence Montgomery and her husband, George of Mesa, AZ; Mary Beth Manross and her husband, Lee of Cambridge Springs; Penny Louise Hale and her husband, Ken of Cambridge Springs; and Laura Ruth Stone and her husband, Michael of Cambridge Springs; eight grandchildren – Kevin Manross, Danielle Schmidt, Kenneth Hale, Jr., Heather Bausch, Lindsay Hale, Jared White, Lindsey Mailliard, and Allyson Park; 19 great grandchildren; a sister – Geraldine Green and her husband, Don of Cambridge Springs, and many nieces and nephews. Laura and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Betty will be missed. Just the other day while we were moving from the house, I found an assortment of knitting needles that she gave me a long time ago. When I ran across them, I got a big smile on my face remembering that sweet lady. My prayers are with you. Love you, Laura.

Dear Jan & Family,
I am very sorry for your loss. Just by knowing you, Jan, and having met Penny a few times, I can easily say Betty must have been an amazing woman to have raised such remarkable women as you two. Her picture, that sweet face, says so much. She looks like a woman who was very easy to love. You 4 daughters will have so many wonderful memories and stories to share with one another. She will continue to live on in your hearts until you meet with her again in heaven.
God bless,
