Ethel Mae McKay Stafford, age 95, passed peacefully on March 18, 2015 following a brief illness. A lifelong resident of Waterford, Mae moved to Girard two years ago to be near her family. Born on June 26, 1919 in Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Charles J. and Crystelle E. Hewitt McKay.

Stafford, Ethel Mae McKayEthel Mae was a homemaker who devoted her life to her family. She was the loving wife of Don for 67 years, whom she married on June 14, 1947, shortly after his return from WWII. She was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church of Waterford and the Fort LeBoeuf American Legion Post 285 Auxiliary. She enjoyed music, crocheting, bird watching and especially spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald P. Stafford in January 2014, her son Douglas P. Stafford in July 2009, her sisters Cornelius ????in???? Barton and Doris M. ????ootie???? Whipple.

Stafford, Ethel Mae McKayShe will be greatly missed by her two daughters, Dona Warner (Jim) and Diane Stafford all of Girard, her 6 grandchildren, Michael Warner (Carolyn) of West Springfield, Julia Warner (Jeff Kaiser) & Jennifer Warner, all of Girard, Kristen Pratt (Andy) of Lake City, Lee Lanagan of Corry and Lori Lanagan of Girard, plus 5 great-grandchildren, Dylan, Lucas, Ryan, Leah and Aubrie. She is further survived and will be missed by her brother Charles J. McKay Jr. of Erie and her sister Dolly Owens of Waterford along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caring staff at Manchester Commons.

Visiting hours will be at Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street in Waterford on Friday from 5-8pm and Saturday from 10:00am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00am. Rev. Emily Zeig-Lindsey will officiate. Interment will follow in Waterford Cemetery.
