Jack Lilly Acker, age 89, resident of Venango, PA, died Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown, PA. Born in Venango, PA on April 19, 1925, he was a son of the late George D. Acker and Mildred M. Lilly Acker.

Following Jack’s graduation from Cambridge Springs High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army serving his country during World War Two. After his discharge, he completed studies in dietary science receiving a degree from Penn State University. In 1984, he retired after working as a dietician at several Pittsburgh area hospitals.

Jack enjoyed caring for animals, especially his horses, birds, and dogs at his home in Bulger, PA. He belonged to Cambridge Springs Covenant Masonic Lodge #471; Venango VFW Post #169, and the Cambridge Springs American Legion Post #381. Jack also was a 70 year member of the Hayfield Grange and belonged to the Montour Valley Horseman’s Association where he had served as president.

He was preceded in death by three brothers – Gerald Acker, Robert Acker, and James (Bill) Acker, and a sister – Nancy Acker. Surviving Jack is a niece – Amber Dudenhoeffer and her husband, Harold of Meadville; a great niece – Denvalee Tucci and her husband, Tony of Venango and their son, Kurtis; a great nephew – Jason Dudenhoeffer of Erie; a great niece – Jessica Miller and her husband, Chris of Venango and their children – Ayden, Jordan, and Kylee; a nephew – Charles Acker and his wife, Kathy of Leesburg, VA and their children – Mikayla and Gerald; a nephew – Frank Acker of Philadelphia, PA; a niece – Helen Marie Acker of Brandon, FL; and a special cousin – John Acker and his wife, Jean of Sylvania, OH.

Friends may call on Saturday, April 18th from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs. Funeral services will begin there at 2:00 with Mark Rusnak, Hospice Chaplain officiating. Interment will follow in Venango Cemetery.
