Wallace (Wally) Brumagin passed away Tuesday, August 18, 2015 at the Sarah Reed Senior Living Center, Erie, PA. Wally was born on June 8, 1917 in Girard, PA, the eldest of seven children born to Laurel and Rose Stuyvesant Brumagin. As a boy, he moved several times, his father working as a tenant farmer. By Wally?????s teenage years, his family owned a farm in Lake Pleasant, and each day he rode his pony to Waterford to attend the Vocational Academy. In 1934, Wally and Alda (Loop) eloped to Ripley, NY to be married. They celebrated 57 years of marriage before Alda?????s death in 1991.

Brumagin, Wallace (Wally)Married with two young children, Wally was one of the last group of men drafted into WWII. He served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific transporting soldiers home at the end of the war. Wally was a man of many talents????he built the family home in Waterford, repaired his own cars, and each summer planted a large garden. Teaching himself trigonometry, Wally worked as a tool and die maker for Zurn Industries for 37 years. He was a crossword puzzle enthusiast with a big vocabulary. In retirement, Wally enjoyed fishing. He built a boat rack for his truck and a cart to portage his boat between lakes on his fishing trips to Canada.

Since 2004, Wally has lived at Sarah Reed Senior Living where he made many friends, served on residents????? council, enjoyed playing cards and bingo, and always attended the social events. He was a long time member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Waterford. Wally often said his life had been blessed????he never had a unpleasant word to say about anyone. As recently as last month, Wally still enjoyed going out to lunch and taking a ride through the countryside.

He was the beloved patriarch of the family and will be missed by his four children: Norman, Jim, Patti (Greg) Smith and Linda (Charles) Morgan; 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 9 great-great-grandchildren; and two surviving sisters, Lora Thomas of Florida and Betty Wells of Pleasantville, PA.

Family and friends may call at Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford on Friday from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be at Asbury United Methodist Church, 27 West 2nd Street, Waterford, on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Gary Donaldson. Interment will follow at Waterford Cemetery.
