Carole Ann Worthem, age 77, long-time resident of the Cambridge and Venango areas, joined her husband, Lon Worthem, in heaven on Saturday, August 22, 2015, the date of their 59th marriage anniversary. She had been in failing health for over a year and had been living at Crawford County Care Center in Saegertown this past year. She passed away at Meadville Medical Center, Meadville, PA. Born in Meadville, PA, on December 5, 1937, Carole was a daughter of the late Russell E. Smith and Luella Marie Bisbee Smith. She married Lon E. Worthem on August 22, 1956 and he preceded her in death on January 4, 1997.

Worthem, Carole AnnYears ago, Carole was employed for over 15 years as a nurse’s aide at Edinboro Manor. She was a member of the Venango United Methodist Church and was a caring and generous person to those she knew. Carole was known for her baking skills, particularly for her pies.

Carole is survived by her sister- Kathlyn Thornton and her companion, Mike Ender of Venango; a niece – Jaclyn Cottrell, whom Carole considered a daughter, and Jaclyn’s husband – Jason of Cambridge Springs; and two great nephews whom she considered her boys – Joseph English and Joshua English, both living at home in Cambridge Springs. She was preceded in death in addition to her parents by a sister – Diane Smith and a brother – Eugene (Pete) Smith.

Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Tuesday, August 25th from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will begin there at 6:00 with Reverend Joe Samalenge, pastor of the Venango United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow the next day at Venango Cemetery.
