Jean B. Hecker, age 68, of Waterford, died at her home on Friday, September 18, 2015 after an extended illness. Born in Erie on May 16, 1947, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Arletta Furlong Parker. She married Robert Thomas Hecker on August 24, 1963 and he survives to mourn her loss.
Jean was a devoted wife to her husband Bob, and a dedicated mother and grandmother. She loved her time spent with her grandchildren and was thrilled with her new great-granddaughter, Ryleigh-Jean. Holidays were Jean’s favorite when she could decorate and give gifts to her family. She could be described as a quiet woman who enjoyed many interests like gardening, watching NASCAR and her drivers Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr., and, years ago, dancing, and seeing friends at the Waterford American Legion and the Union City Moose Lodge.
Over the years, Jean had three employers– Molded Fiberglass in Union City for 12 years, Elgin Electronics in Waterford for 21 years, and Snaptite from 1998-2010.
Those that preceded her in death were her daughter Melanie Sue Hecker in 1972; her sister Judy Kostovick, and her sister-in-law Charlotte Verbanac.
Survivors include her husband Robert; her daughter Kimberley Lanning (Andy) of Waterford; three grandchildren, Danielle (Dan), Michelle, and Cody; her great-granddaughter Ryleigh-Jean; a brother Robert Parker (Chris) of Youngstown, OH, and sister Beverly Staszewski (Chet) of Erie; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford on Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will be there Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Gary Donaldson, pastor of Asbury United Methodist Church in Waterford. Burial will follow at Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery.
