Linda L. Mathews, age 66, lifelong resident of Edinboro, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 24, 2015 from cancer. Born May 10, 1949 in Meadville, PA, she was a daughter of the late Vernon and Lillian Gage Mathews.
After graduating from General McLane High School, Linda worked for her Dad for several years at the IGA Foodliner Grocery Store that he owned and operated in Edinboro. She enjoyed many interests in her lifetime including the love of music. She loved church music and at one time played organ and piano, and sang in the choir at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Drakes Mills where she was a member. Linda enjoyed crafts, and would like to be taken shopping or to the YMCA, always, of course, picking up a coffee on the way.
The last six years, Linda was with Erie Homes for Children and Adults, and the last five years resided with Rita Lutz who provided excellent care for her along with Sandy Smith and Ellen Vaivoda. Even with the pain that Linda endured through the years, she rarely complained and she truly loved her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She will be remembered as a faithful woman with a servant’s heart.
Linda will be sadly missed by her sister, Carol Mathews Yankovich of Edinboro; her two nephews, David Yankovich and his wife Tina and their two children Chase and Josie, and John Yankovich; her cousins far and near; and her aunt, Arlene Kaufman.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
Visiting hours will be at Van Matre Family Funeral Home, 306 Erie Street, Edinboro on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. The funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 25812 Mount Pleasant Road, Cambridge Springs with Reverend Brian Riddle officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Erie Homes for Children and Adults, 226 East 27th Street, Erie, PA 16504.
