Shearer, Jeannie

Jeannie Shearer, age 79, born on May 7, 1936 in Cambridge Springs and living there her entire life, passed away at her home on Friday, November 20, 2015 after being in declining health for several months. She was a daughter of the late Fred Shearer and Freda Whitford Shearer. She married Eugene Shearer on May 12, 1955 and he remains to mourn her loss.

Shearer, JeannieGraduating from Cambridge Springs High School with the Class of 1954, Jeannie worked during her high school years at the San Rosario Nursing Home in Cambridge Springs. Following graduation she worked for Hoyt and Shorts Grocery in Cambridge Springs and as an Avon Representative while at the same time raising her three sons. Later, she was employed by Edinboro University in the Health Center for over 18 years, retiring in 1998.

Much of Jeannie’s time was spent in the First Baptist Church in Cambridge Springs where she was a life-long member. She served as a Deaconess for many years and with the American Baptist Women. More recently, she was involved with the Kid’s Club, helped in the Garden Room, and was in charge of funeral dinners and other special occasions. Jeannie was dedicated to the Chautauqua Institute Baptist House where she was secretary for many years, assisted with the Cambridge Springs school release time program, and was a member of the Cambridge Springs women’s Gam-Sac-Mah Club. Additionally, Jeannie enjoyed associating with the Edinboro University retired ladies group – the “lunch bunch”. Jeannie was gifted with writing letters of encouragement, enjoyed reading, and particularly spending time with her grandchildren.

Surviving Jeannie, in addition to her husband, Gene are three sons – Doug Shearer and his wife, Debbie of Cambridge Springs; Dave Shearer and his wife, Linda of Cambridge Springs; and Darren Shearer and his wife, Michele of Union City. Her grandchildren are Chantell Ridgeway and her husband, Bill; Jessica Lippert and her husband, Arron; Jenna Shearer; Reverend Amber J. Shearer; Dylan Shearer and his wife, Megan; Andrew Shearer; and Cara Shearer. Also surviving are several nieces. Preceding Jeannie in death in addition to her parents was a sister – Thora “Sal” Dunn.

Friends will be received at the First Baptist Church, 339 South Main Street, Cambridge Springs on Sunday, November 22nd from 2-4 and 7-9 and from 10 until 11 on Monday. Funeral services will begin there on Monday morning at 11:00 with Reverend Rod Beardsley, pastor of the Church officiating and assisted by others. Interment will take place at Cambridge Cemetery with a funeral dinner to follow at the Church at 11:30 a.m.

i am saddened to hear about the passing of Jeannie. she was a great lady and will be missed greatly. my thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Gene, David and Linda, I just wanted to let you know how very sorry I was to read of the passing of your wife and mom. I am sure she is rejoicing in heaven as I write this! She is in the company of many angels who have gone on before her. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.
