Stephen R. Gross, age 54, of Grand Valley, PA, died of natural causes on February 22, 2016. Born in Erie on June 6, 1961, he is the son of Joane E. Smith Gross of Titusville, PA and the late Richard E. Gross.

Gross, Stephen001?? Steve grew up in Millcreek, attending McDowell schools and Erie County Vo-Tech where he was certified as a welder. He was a skilled welder and fabricator working in Erie for 15 years at Ervite Manufacturing before moving to Raleigh-Durham, NC in the 1990’s. There he continued his trade, married his wife Suzie, and worked alongside her at her restaurant “Munchin’ Marvin’s”.

In 2012, Steve moved back to his family homestead in Grand Valley, PA. He enjoyed his family and friends and was quite the outdoorsman. “Captain Steve” had many interests including fishing, hunting, trapping, taxidermy, dirt bikes, Chevy trucks, and southern rock. He will be missed by his family and his pet dog “Biscuit” and pet turkey “Elby”.

Stephen was preceded in death by his wife Suzie Gross, his son Stephen R. Gross Jr., and his father Richard.

His surviving family includes his mother, Joane Gross; his four siblings- Jeffrey S. Gross and wife Deborah of Pittsburgh, Cynthia D. Friedman and husband Donald of Waterford, Julie M. Simon of Waterford, and David E. Gross of Atlanta, GA; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends are invited to visit with the family at Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in Steve’s name to Grand Valley Fire Department, Main Street, Grand Valley, PA 16420.
