Robert L. Hodges, age 89, long time resident of Cambridge Springs, passed away unexpectedly at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, Meadville, PA on Friday, March 11, 2016.

Born in Meadville, PA on May 26, 1926, Robert was a son of the late John Nelson Hodges and Rhoda C. Shorts Hodges. He married the former Viola M. Winsor on July 12, 1958 and she preceded him in death on December 21, 2012.

Hodges, Robert050??????Robert graduated from Cambridge Springs High School in 1944 and his first employment was as a bell hop at the Riverside Inn and he then worked at General Electric in Erie. His later employment of over 25 years until his retirement was as a supermarket clerk at the Short’s Red and White Super Market in Cambridge Springs. Bob was a member of New Beginnings Church in Meadville where he was a former usher. He also held memberships at B.O.P. Elks # 219 in Meadville and the Venango V.F.W. Post #169 and bowled with the Senior League at Lost Lanes in Cambridge Springs. He enjoyed Bingo and was an avid player.

Bob was preceded in death in addition to his wife and parents by three sisters – Josephine Taylor, Jeanne Porter, and Lois (Hodges) Moore. Surviving Bob is his brother – John E. Hodges and his wife, Shirley, of Cambridge Springs; four nieces – Raetta Porter of Cambridge Springs; Barbara (Glen) Austin of Florida; Robin (Jeffrey) Leri of Meadville; and Sandy (Paul) Frazier of Cambridge Springs; two nephews – John K. Hodges of Erie and James Moore of Kentucky; great nieces – Nikki Leri, Meghan Leri, Stacey Frazier Endicott, and Cheryl Simmons; and great nephews – Kyle Frazier, Jeff Wilson, Craig Austin, and Dan Austin. Also surviving is a great great nephew – Logan Frazier.

Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Monday, March 14th from 2-4 and 6-8. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at New Beginnings Church located on Leslie Road, Meadville at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Temple Jarrell, associate pastor of the Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Venango Cemetery.
