Former Waterford Postmaster, Ruth E. Egelin, passed peacefully in her sleep at St. Vincent Hospital on May 30, 2016. The daughter of Arthur Hoke and Naomi (Lewis) Hoke, she was born in Altoona, PA on May 4, 1920.

After graduating from high school in Philadelphia, Ruth moved to Waterford where she met her husband, George G. Egelin who preceded her in death. They raised three daughters: Joanne (Don) Osborn of Union City, Gretchen (Frank) Slyder of Travelers Rest, SC, and Kay (Robert) Kraus of Erie.

Ruth was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Waterford where she sang in the choir for many years. She was honored as “Church Person of the Year” in 2008. She was a charter member of the Waterford Lioness Club, and she enjoyed golfing, bowling and playing cards with family and friends.

Ruth is also survived by five grandchildren, Bryan Osborn, Kevin Osborn, Emily and Jeff Holes, Kimberly Williams, and Shelly and Todd Christensen; 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was Aunt Ruthie to many and cherished her friends.

Visiting hours will be at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral services will be at the Waterford First Presbyterian Church on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in Waterford Cemetery.
