Norman was a retired heavy equipment operator with Operating Engineers and was very proud to be a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local Union #66 for over 60 years. He was an active member at St. Francis Ushers Club and a social member at American Legion Post #285. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend — a man with a heart of gold. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, hunting, and farming – he was especially fond of his prized bull, Pittsburgh Pete, and fishing on Lake Erie with his best friend Tom.

Norman is survived by his wife Kay; five daughters– Joan, Jane, Mary (Alvin), Katie, Norma Kay (Matthew), and daughter-in-law Lynn; his sister Marjorie; many grand and great-grand children, and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Norman was preceded in death by his son Norman Jr. (Bo); his sister Virginia; brothers Robert, Arthur, Donald, and Albert; and great-grandson Weston.

The family would like to extend their appreciation to the nurses and staff at Lakeland Area Hospice for their care, compassion, and assistance over the past few years, especially Tanya and Jen.

Memorial services will be private at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford. The family will be celebrating the life of Norman on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at noon at the American Legion Post #285 in Waterford. Family and friends are invited to join them for a luncheon to share stories and remember a life lived to the fullest.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Lung Association, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or a charity of choice.
