Russell A. Norell, age 75, of Mill Village, died Tuesday, June 28, 2016. Born in Erie on July 10, 1940, he was the son of the late Russell J. Norell and Lillian Hanigan Long.

Norell, Russell (2)Russell formerly owned The Village Tavern in Mill Village from 1979-89. He was also employed as a quality engineer at Johnson Controls in Erie from 1980 until his retirement in 2001, and previous to that, was employed at D & K Stores. Russell served in the U.S. Air Force from 1960-64 and was stationed in Lincoln, NE. He was a member of the American Legion Post #285 in Waterford, the Eureka Masonic Lodge #366 in Union City, and he belonged to the Shriners and the Royal Jesters. He was an avid sports fan, and he enjoyed classic cars and playing golf.

Family members include his wife, Kathleen G. Evans Norell; three daughters– Lisa Norell of Erie, Amy Kingen and husband Dale of Mill Village, and Megan Verbanac and husband Dan of Cambridge Springs; and five grandchildren– Hayley and Rachel Kingen, and Hannah, Clay, and Paige Verbanac. Russell was preceded in death by his parents and his step-father, Thomas Long.

Friends are invited to visiting hours at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and to the funeral service on Friday at 11:00 a.m. Final interment will be in Mill Village Cemetery.
