James Bowman, age 70, resident of Rolling Fields Eldercare in Conneautville for the past year passed away there on Sunday, August 14, 2016. James was born on July 17, 1946 in Washington, PA, a son of the late Clara Bowman. He married the former Judith Griggs Hood on August 9, 1978 and they lived in Vernon Township for the past 19 years.

Bowman, James008 (2)Following high school, Jim was inducted into the US Navy in 1943 and was honorably discharged in 1946 serving his country during World War II. Coming from the military service, Jim began his life’s work operating heavy equipment in the construction of roads and bridges. He concurrently worked as a part-time beef farmer and retired from both after 50 years. Following his retirement he continued to work in maintenance at McDonalds in Vernon Township for an additional 16 years. Jim was a life member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 66 of Pittsburgh and a life member of Linesville VFW. He enjoyed puzzles, cards, and was a NASCAR and football fan.

Surviving Jim in addition to his wife, Judith, are seven children – Julie Troxell (Joe); Jeannie Duck (D.J.), James Bowman (Dianne), Linda Shartle, Thersea McHale (Tom), William Bowman (Paula), and Douglas Bowman (Lisa); two stepdaughters – Robin S. Hood and Jodi N. Hood (Justin Leib). Also surviving are many grandchildren, great grandchildren, step grandchildren, step great grandchildren; a half-sister -Theresa Chase and a half-brother – Melvin Chess (Dianne). Preceding? James in death was a stepson – Michael Hood who died in 1982 and a half-brother – Glenn Chess.

As per Jim’s wishes there are no visiting hours or funeral services. Jim’s wife, Judith, would like to thank Rolling Fields Eldercare Community and staff for the care of Jim.
