Nancy L. Mitchell, age 69, of Waterford Township, passed away peacefully at her home with her family by her side on Saturday, August 13, 2016. Born in Erie on September 15, 1946, she was one of two daughters of the late Raymond and Bertha Williams Boyd. Nancy married Rodney T. Mitchell on February 8, 1969, and he preceded her in death on November 3, 2012.

Mitchell, Nancy (2)?? Nancy worked as a bookkeeper for various local businesses, and in 1987, she and her husband and son founded Mitchell Hardwoods in Waterford. She was active in the operations of the family business until one week ago. Above all, Nancy’s family is what captured her attention and was her number one priority. Nancy was blessed to share so many years with Rod, her husband, and she dearly loved her two children and four grandchildren. She cherished any time spent with her grandchildren, including the years she helped in raising her two granddaughters. For leisure, Nancy enjoyed snowmobiling, yardwork, and hunting and fishing with her husband.

Family members that preceded her in death were her parents and her husband, Rod. Survivors include her son, Brian R. Mitchell of Waterford, and daughter, Rhonda R. Napier and husband Chris of Cary, NC; four grandchildren– Briana and Shelby Mitchell, and Ryan and Tyler Napier; a sister, Carol Troyer and husband Keith of Union City, and their sons– Clay Troyer and family, Kyle Troyer and family, and Luke Troyer and family; and nephew, Steve Mitchell Jr. and family of Erie.

Friends may call at Van Matre Funeral Home, 105 Walnut Street, Waterford on Monday from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will take place their Tuesday morning at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Patrick Lenox. Burial will follow at Waterford Cemetery.

Memorials may be made in Nancy’s name to Susan G. Komen for breast cancer awareness.
