Loretta Marjorie Johnson Nelson, age 85, of Mill Village, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2016 at Edinboro Manor where she had resided for a short time. Born in Union City on July 2, 1931, she was a daughter, one of ten children, of the late Ralph and Jennie Brown Johnson.

Nelson, Loretta001Loretta married Marvin F. Nelson on June 4, 1949, and together they operated a farm on Elgin Road in Union City until moving to St. Cloud, FL in 1979. While living in Florida for about 25 years, Loretta worked at a doctor’s office.

Loretta had a strong Christian faith and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Union City where she had served in many capacities including deaconess, organist, financial secretary, and Sunday School teacher. She could be described as being a very generous and caring woman who loved her family very much.

Those preceding her in death include her parents, her husband Marvin who died December 12, 1998, a son Gregory Van Nelson, five brothers- Raleigh, Carl, Walter, John, and LaVerne, and four sisters- Leona, Thelma, Violet, and Vivian.

Loretta’s family consists of three children- Gerald Nelson of South Dakota, and Kay Marie Rigetta and Andrew Nelson, both of Mill Village; seven grandchildren including Diandra and Tasha, and several great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Friday at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Pastor Sam Villers of Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Waterford Cemetery.
