Hazel Smith, 94, resident of 228 Bolard Avenue, Cambridge Springs for over 60 years died Wednesday, August 31st at the home of her son in Portland, Oregon. Born in Erie on May 9, 1922, Hazel was a daughter of Wilbur Fiske and Fern Mitcham Fiske. She married J. Francis Smith in September, 1939 and he preceded her in death. They lived in Townville until June of 1950 when they moved to Cambridge Springs.

smith-hazel????? Hazel was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Cambridge Springs where she held the office of financial teller for many years. She was a volunteer and member of Golden Living Auxiliary and Cambridge Springs Senior Center. In addition, Hazel was a member of the Cambridge Springs Order of the Eastern Star, Our Lady of the Springs Rebekah Lodge, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Years ago, Hazel was employed by John J. Shryocks of Meadville, Shorts and Hoyt Red and White store in Cambridge Springs, and Edinboro Upholstering in Edinboro. She enjoyed working with her flowers, crafts, crocheting, and was an avid golfer.

Preceding Hazel in death was her husband, J. Francis Smith who died in March of 1991, a daughter, Karen who died in June of 2005 and a daughter, Marilyn who died in March of 2013.

Surviving are two sons, Gary F. Smith of Portland, Oregon and Robert B. Smith of Whitefield, New Hampshire; six grandchildren; and six great grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Van Matre Family Funeral Home on Friday, September 9th from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and are invited to attend funeral services to be held at the First United Methodist Church in Cambridge Springs on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Reverend Joe Samalenge, pastor of the Church will officiate. Interment will take place in Kingsley Cemetery, Townville.
