Barbara A. Mitchell Stull, age 70, passed away at her home in McKean Township on Thursday, September 1, 2016 after a one-year battle with cancer. Born in Union City, PA on October 8, 1945, she was a daughter of the late Orville and Louise Owens Chase.

Mitchell Stull, Barbara?? Barb was a loving, sweet and gentle soul who loved her family and her home. She appreciated nature and the outdoors, and enjoyed many related activities like helping with bird banding at Presque Isle, rescuing birds and animals at Tamarack Wildlife Center in Saegertown, and working in her yard. And yes, she loved her many pets.

Years ago, Barb worked in the Fort LeBoeuf school cafeteria where she liked interacting with the kids, but for the last 25 years, until March 2016, Barb worked as a medical secretary at DaVita Dialysis Center where she made many friends. She was a member of the Presque Isle Audubon Society and the Waterford Lioness Club.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by a niece, Shelbi Lou Fries, and also Shelbi’s daughter, Rayna Lynn Fries.

Surviving family members include her husband, James A. “Sam” Stull; a daughter, Michele Carniewski and her husband Rich of Erie; a son, Matthew Mitchell of Waterford; two grandsons, Josh and Jacob Carniewski; a sister, Brenda L. Jones of Waterford; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends of many years.

Friends may visit with the family at memorial visiting hours on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford. A memorial service will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church in Waterford on Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Gary Donaldson officiating.

The family would like to thank the Regional Cancer Center and the Regional Home Health and Hospice for their gentle care of Barbara.

Memorials may be made to the Presque Isle Audubon Society, the Tamarack Wildlife Center, or a charity of choice.
