Barbara L. Hodge, “Barb”, age 77, of Edinboro, Pa, passed away Monday, December 12, 2016 surrounded by family from complications of diabetes. Born in Somerville, NJ on August 19, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Beatrice Vaughn.
Barb loved to cook and spent her entire life caring for others. She showed her never-ending love by preparing amazing meals. She was famous for her whoopie pies, Santa face cookies and the best brown bag lunches ever. Some people take in stray animals, Barb took in people. She was a surrogate mother and grandma to many people and children, not to mention a loving mom, gram and great gram. She made ever-lasting memories for all children in her life by singing them lullabies and reading to them. Barb said “the thing that made me happiest in my life, is being a grandma”.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Vaughn.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Thomas “Tinker” Hodge, whom she married September 6, 1959; a brother, David Vaughn (Shelly) of Somerville, NJ; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Vaughn also of Somerville, NJ; four sons, Thomas “Tim” Hodge of Mill Village, Pa, Robert Hodge (Jennifer) of Birmingham, AL, Chris Hodge (Tammy) of Edinboro, Pa, and David Hodge (Kim) also of Edinboro Pa; five grandchildren, Christine Renick (Kyle) of Edinboro, Kati Miller (Chad) of Cambridge Springs, Jessica Jones (Forest) of Birmingham, AL, and Maddison and Clinton Hodge of Edinboro, Pa; and two great-grandchildren, Jameson Renick and Bentley Miller.
Private funeral services will be at Van Matre Family Funeral Home in Edinboro, and burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
The family welcomes all friends to celebrate Barb’s life Friday, December 16, from 6-9 at the family’s home 14300 Mt. Pleasant Rd., Cambridge Springs, PA 16403.
