Bernadette M. Winkelbauer, age 68, of Waterford, passed away Thursday, February 9, 2017 at UPMC Hamot. She was born March 7, 1948 in Braddock, PA, the daughter of the late Stephen Matusik and Stephanie Stulpin Matusik.
Bernadette, a homemaker, spent her life dedicated to her family. Her main focus was her two sons. For forty years, she volunteered as a Girl Scout leader, and she was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Edinboro for 48 years. As an avid reader, Bernadette always had a book in her hands. She was also a member of the Waterford Garden Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Albert Matusik.
Bernadette is survived by her husband of 48 years, Robert J. Winkelbauer; a daughter, Sheila Proudfoot of Maryland; two sons, Philip and Joshua Winkelbauer, both at home; a sister, Stephanie Martin of Irwin, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews, a large extended family, and close friends.
Friends may call at the Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Sunday, February 12, from 2:00-4:00 and from 6:00-8:00 p.m. There will be a funeral mass at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Edinboro on Monday, February 13, at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend John B. Jacquel will officiate. Burial will be at Washington Valley Cemetery.
Worked with Bernie for many years in Girl Scouting…. I sure she will be greatly missed by scouts, friends, and family.
So sorry to hear of Bernadette’s passing. I have know her for many years through Girl Scouts and always thought she was a great lady!
