Karen Taylor, 74, passed away Sunday, June 4, 2017 at UPMC Hamot, Erie, PA. She is survived by her loving daughters, Patty McNabb and husband Robert McNabb Jr. of Lake City, and Barb Opatrny and husband Bill Opatrny of Cochranton; her loving grandchildren, Taylor McNabb, Paige Potter and her husband Kyle Potter, Nikki Opatrny, Justin Opatrny, and Jake Opatrny; brother, Gary Koech of Tidioute, PA; and nephews Gary Koech II, Chris Koech and Joe Koech.
Karen was born in Erie on May 7, 1943 to Sydney (Syd) and Rita Koech. In 1962, Karen graduated from McDowell High School. After marriage, Karen moved to their country home with her husband Norman Taylor in Waterford, where they raised their daughters and grandchildren. Karen was an avid horse lover who participated heavily in 4H and other equestrian clubs and groups. She enjoyed spending time with relatives and friends at their Waterford home until moving to Niagara Village in Erie, PA. Karen also enjoyed being a seamstress for friends and especially making riding attire for competitive horse shows. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, creating in the sewing room, and cooking and baking with her grandchildren. She was very proud of each one of them.
Friends and family are invited to Karen’s memorial service on Thursday June 8, 2017 at Van Matre Family Funeral Home, 306 Erie Street, Edinboro, PA 16412, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with the memorial service to immediately follow.
