Ernestine M. Thompson, age 91, of Waterford, died Friday, December 1, 2017 at Golden Living Center-Western Reserve in Erie. Born in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Ernest J. Prosperi and Marie Walsh Prosperi Ferretti McCullough.

When she was a young girl, Ernestine’s family moved to Erie and she attended Academy High School. She married Frederick W. “Corky” Thompson Sr. in 1947, and they were married 66 years at the time of his death in 2013. Ernestine and Fred raised their family in Waterford and she worked for many years at Elgin Electronics before retiring.

Many will remember Ernestine as an avid bowler for she participated in bowling leagues and played in many tournaments. She was a talented seamstress and upholsterer, and she enjoyed cooking and baking. Ernestine was also a competitive card player and played pinochle with her partners, niece and nephew Denise and Steve Davis. She loved her family very much and was always grateful for them, especially her nephew Eric Mitchell for the favors he did for her.

In addition to her husband who died November 5, 2013, Ernestine was preceded in death by her brother, James E. Prosperi, and her son-in-law, Elwood Niemeyer.

Survivors in the family include her three children– Frederick (Corky) Thompson II and his wife Eve, Linda Niemeyer, and Patti Davey and her husband Terrence; grandchildren– Michelle and David Conley, Katrina and Joseph Michalski, Alaina Hathaway, Matthew Davey, and Eric and Brooke Davey; great-grandchildren– Aiden, Jacob, Matthew, Landon, Leland, Adelaide, and Frederick; and many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

The Thompson family would like to thank the staff of Golden Living-Western Reserve for their care and friendship.

Friends are invited to call at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and may attend the funeral service there Monday morning at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Michael Priestap from McLane Church in Edinboro will officiate. Burial will follow at Waterford Cemetery.
