James A. “Jim” Hoover Sr., age 62, of Edinboro, and formerly of Millcreek, died Friday, July 6, 2018 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on March 7, 1956, the son of the late Joseph W. Hoover and Catherine Wurst Hoover.
Jim married the love of his life, Ann Rawlings on October 28, 1978, and together they raised their family in Millcreek while he worked at Erie Strayer Co. for 40 years. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying archery, gardening, hunting, and fishing, and he enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother, Frances Ginkel Hoover; his brother, Joseph W. Hoover Jr.; and his father- and mother-in-law, H.E. Rawlings and Mary Agnes Daily Rawlings.
Jim is survived by his wife, Ann Rawlings Hoover; his son, James A. Hoover Jr. (Melanie); his daughter, Catherine M. Hoover (Ryan Krayniewski); a grandson, Joseph W. Hoover; also, a sister, Nancy Daub; a sister-in-law, Amy Rawlings Williams; brother-in-law, Edward Rawlings (Eileen); and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be at Van Matre Funeral Home, 306 Erie Street, Edinboro on Monday from 3:00 p.m. until time of the funeral service at 6:30 p.m. Pastor Cliff Forbes of New Beginnings Church of God will officiate. Interment will be private at Erie County Memorial Gardens.
