Dorothy Lee Pierce Ruden (Grandma Nudie), age 92, of Waterford, passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018 at the home of her daughter, Karen Oberlander. Born in Wendell, NC on July 27, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Eleanor Haswell Pierce.

Ruden, Dorothy001Family members include her two daughters, Elaine Schaefer of Union City, and Karen Oberlander of Waterford; six grandchildren– Michael Oberlander (Barb), Robert Oberlander (Melissa), Ronald Oberlander (Katie), Erin Richardson (CJ), James Bellis (Angie), and Mark Schaefer (Jerica); and nineteen great-grandchildren– Ryan, Alex, Amory, Jordan, Courtney, Kaitlin, Henry, and Owen Oberlander, Jakob, Jaden, and Mason Richardson, Lexie, Bailey, and Tessa Bellis, Madyson, Mylei, Harley, and Haven Schaefer, and Ellie Witherow; her great-great-granddaughter, Kyla Oberlander and her mom Bobbi Oberlander. She is also survived by many close cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Melvin Pierce, and her son-in-law, Ron Oberlander.

Dorothy worked at Perry Plastics for 17 years. She was the first woman Union President of Local 917 in Erie, PA, and she was active in the Democratic Women’s Association for several years. She enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and knitting, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-granddaughter. Her door was always open to her grandchildren and their friends, for she was “Grandma” to many, and loved by all.

Friends are invited to call at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Tuesday from 4 – 8 p.m., and may attend the funeral service there on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Waterford Cemetery.
