Thomas William Sharpe, age 77, of Waterford, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2018 after his battle with A.L.S. He was born on December 2, 1940, the son of the late Adrian and Lydia Lindberg Sharpe.

Sharpe, Tom001Tom graduated from Fort LeBoeuf High School Class of 1958, where he played baseball and basketball. He served in the U.S. Army’s 16th Artillery Division from 1963 to 1965. After his service, he worked for Meadow Brook Dairy, driving truck for 8 years, then driving for ABF Freight Systems for 31 years before retiring. He was awarded ABF’s Gold Award for driving 3 million miles without an accident.

Tom liked working in the woods, playing golf, hunting, camping, traveling around Europe, and going on cruises. He was a Cleveland Indians fan for life. For the last 15 years, he and his wife enjoyed their winters at their home in Zephyrhills, FL. Tom loved life, his friends, and his family.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Yaple Sharpe; his daughters, Kimberly Zeigler and husband Brad, and Kathy Jakubowski and husband Anthony; a son, Robert Sharpe and wife Jamie; a daughter-in-law, Lynn Sharpe; and five grandchildren- Austin and Nathan Zeigler, Alexandria and Lucas Jakubowski, and Ashley Sharpe. He is further survived by his sister, Marge Gibson from Texas; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Sharpe; a brother-in-law, Martin Huegel and wife Karen; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Huegel Sharpe; his son, Brian Sharpe; a brother, Richard Sharpe; and a brother-in-law, Bill Gibson.

The family would like to thank the Veterans Affairs Medical Centers in Erie and Cleveland for the wonderful caring people that helped Tom endure the problems that A.L.S. delivers.

Visiting hours will be at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be there Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. followed by the interment at Erie County Memorial Gardens.
