Raymond L. Baker, age 75, of Waterford, PA died Thursday, September 13, 2018 at UPMC Hamot in Erie. He was born on June 4, 1943 in Conneaut OH.
At the age of 18, Ray joined the U.S. Army and went to serve two tours in Vietnam as a Huev door Gunner. Upon his return home from service he joined the Ironworkers Union and retired after 44 years. During that time he met and married his sweetheart, Sally Baker. He also served as a volunteer for Stancliff VFD for a number of years, as well as a longtime volunteer for WQLN. He was also a big supporter of the Wounded Warrior’s Project as well as a number of Military related Charities.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Sara Jane “Sally” (Carrier) Baker; his parents, Chester Blair and Dorothy (Range) Baker; his father- and mother-in-law, Ervin and Elizabeth “Betts” (Haas) Carrier; his brother Richard Baker; two brothers-in-law, Richard Hershey and George Liaturi; one niece, Cindy Baker, and one nephew, Richard Baker.
He is survived by his daughter, Jodi L. Baker of Mt. Joy, PA and his son, Jonathan L. Baker and his wife Rebecca of Brave, PA; three grandchildren, Kayla M. Baker of Waterford, PA, Tyler R. Baker of Camp Lejeune, NC and Isabella N. Baker of Brave, PA. Also, one sister, Arlene Liaturi of Conneaut, OH, and three brothers–in-law and four sisters-in-law– Avis Baker of Hartford, CT, Jon Carrier and wife Sandy of Apalachin, NY, Roger Carrier and wife Norma of Pittsburgh, PA, Judy Pasold-Hershey of McKean, PA, Stephen Carrier and wife Dixie of Worthington, OH, Brenda Carrier of Fairview, PA, and Libby Hall-Skellen and husband Bill of Holley, NY; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be a memorial service with Military Honors held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 1pm. The services and meal to follow will be held at Ray’s home, 437 Benson Rd, Waterford, PA 16441. All family and friends are welcome.
