Celia Romaine (McDuff) Thayer, 91, passed away peacefully at the Crawford County Care Center on Wednesday, September 26, 2018, after an 11-month stay.  Celia was born in Cambridge Springs, PA, on January 19, 1927, the daughter of the late Roland Bailey McDuff and Inez Janet Thayer, CeliaMickle McDuff.  She had formerly resided in Venango, PA, for many years. After graduating from Cambridge Springs High School, she married Charles Edward Thayer on July 11, 1947. She attended the Venango Methodist Church for several years and enjoyed singing in the choir and helping with activities and women’s groups.  In her last few years she attended the First Baptist Church of Cambridge Springs with her daughters.  Her biggest joy was taking care of children.  She also loved sewing, making homemade stuffed animals and dolls for her grandchildren, attending church, reading and history.  She was a quiet person with a big heart who was devoted to her home and family and will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Thayer; two grandchildren: Margaret (Maggie) Elizabeth Thayer and Robert Alan Thayer; four sisters: Betty Marzke, Jean Miller, March Gray and Linda DeLoss; and a brother, Stanley McDuff.

She is survived by her six children:  Bruce Thayer and his wife, Janet, of Middletown, PA; Susan Tenney-Stoudt and her husband, Sam, of Venango; Teresa Findlay and her husband, Dale, of Cambridge Springs; Robert Thayer and his wife, Yvonne, of Venango, Greg Thayer and his wife, Janice, of Cambridge Springs; and Brian Thayer of Cambridge Springs. Surviving grandchildren include:  Alicia Scheetz, Nathan Thayer, Matthew Tenney, Jonathan Tenney, Zachary Tenney, Mark Findlay, Keith Findlay, Joel Thayer, Philip Thayer, Caleb Thayer, Kimberly Masternak, Melissa Devore and Melina Thayer.  Also surviving are two brothers: Frank McDuff and his wife, Shirley, of Venango; and Larry McDuff and his wife, Mary, of Cambridge Springs; and numerous great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the staff at the Crawford County Care Center in Saegertown, PA, for all their support and loving care.

Family and friends are invited to call at the Van Matre Funeral Home in Cambridge Springs on Sunday, September 30, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. and are invited to a funeral service to be held there on Monday, October 1, at 11:00 a.m. Interment services will be held at the Venango Cemetery.
