Edna Joanne Hawley, age 82, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2018 at UPMC Hamot. Born in LeBoeuf Township on January 12, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Donald W. and Hattie Patten Orr.
Edna was born and raised in the Waterford area. She graduated from the Waterford Academy and attended business school before starting her 30-year career in banking. Most of those years she was at the bank in Waterford, retiring in 2000 as branch manager of the PNC Bank.
She was active in the Waterford community as a member of the Waterford Area Business Association and Waterford Heritage Days, and she served as Majority Inspector of Elections. Edna was an accomplished seamstress, sewing anything from wedding dresses and draperies, to making the identifying flags on U.S. Military Humvees used in the Middle East after 9/11.
Edna enjoyed playing golf anytime she could, and she enjoyed water aerobics at the Pennbriar. As an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, she insisted on the black & gold colors, for she hated the color yellow!
Edna’s husband, Merlin Hawley, preceded her in death in 1989; and she had a brother, James Park Orr, and a sister, Leona Donnell, who also previously passed.
Family members include three daughters- Pam Roueche (Jim), Yvonne Hawley, and Kim Lichtinger; five grandchildren- Olivia (Spencer), Melissa and Jessica, and Jason (Liz) and James (Emily); three great-grandchildren- Theo, Emlee and Rylee; two brothers- Floyd Orr (Dorothy) and Paul Orr (Martha); and many nieces and nephews and close friends including her Pennbriar buddies.
Friends may call at Van Matre Funeral Home in Waterford on Saturday morning, December 22nd, from 10:00 a.m. until time of the funeral at 12:00 noon. Pastor Gary Donaldson of Asbury Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Waterford Cemetery.
